In late June, campus ministers from Ohio to California traveled with International Samaritan (I.S.) to the garbage dump community of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. There, they helped construct the walls for new classrooms at I.S.’s school, participated in reflections, and visited with children at International Samaritan’s nursery in order to get a feel for what their students might experience on an I.S. service trips.
“Our Come and See is a program designed to show service trip leaders and campus ministers what International Samaritan does before they commit to come on a service trip with students,” said I.S. Program Director Andrew Pawuk. “We understand the need for them to carefully consider all of their options before leading students into a different country.”
Campus ministers Nate Kapier, of Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio, Chris McMahon of St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and Gina and Brent Anderson of the Jesuit School, in Sacramento, California spent five days in Honduras. All are planning an I.S. service learning trip to Honduras for their students in 2012.
