Volunteer Coordinators

In today’s society, it is so easy for youth to get wrapped up in the wrong things: consumerism, popularity, appearances. More than ever, youth need to have experiences that make them examine their own hearts. Service learning trips have a huge impact on how youth see the world and on their relationships to God and other people. They change lives.

"After seeing first-hand how students respond to the immense poverty of Central America with compassion and faith, I am convinced that international service is an essential gift we as Catholic educators need to provide our students."

What Makes Our Service Trips Unique?

  1. The level of poverty travelers experience has been defined as the most chronic and severe in the world by the United Nations. For over a decade, we have worked to continuously improve upon our services in garbage dump communities. Volunteers and donors can see our programs take root and flourish. They can be a part of these life-changing programs. Our volunteers make wonderful connections with the children and families we serve. They can follow these communities, watch the improvements, and see the children continue their education and escape a life of garbage dump squalor. Our volunteers are a major part of our success. This is part of the reason our volunteers return to our sites again and again.

  2. We do all the work, taking care of each volunteer group from the moment the travelers land at the airport to the moment they depart.

  3. Our price includes the cost of airfare. In reality, our price includes nearly everything, from transportation, translators, and program materials to meals and safe, clean accommodations.

  4. International Samaritan has developed relationships with local governments that allow us to have government security at our program sites.  The local governments make police and other personnel available, who bring with them their specific knowledge, training and experience of the areas in which we serve.

  5. We divert service trips to other locations when necessary at no extra cost for travelers. This may be done due to political unrest, security or weather-related situations.

  6. Our trips not only aim to touch hearts, but also to educate minds. We offer a complete educational experience. International Samaritan will provide educators with classroom materials to integrate pre- and post-experience.

  7. International Samaritan offers follow-up newsletters, Facebook, and alumni events for all travelers.  We also offer individuals and groups projects to do as a follow-up to their experience.

  8. International Samaritan conducts professional research designed to measure the impact and outcomes learned from the experience.  We believe nonprofits can and should produce measurable results. Schools and other institutions are encouraged to use our research to follow-up with learning and school promotion activities at their own institutions.

  9. International Samaritan receives travel benefits and reduced airline costs as a result of the volume of business we do with travel agents and airlines.

International Samaritan has over 15 years of experience in six countries with service learning trips.
